I just finished this painting. It’s kind of got a Zombie Virgin Mary on Bad Acid vibe. I really pushed myself to gore this up, and will continue to do so in the future. I took a lot of pictures during the process of painting this thing, and I plan to make another process video in the next couple of days. I’m going to bed now.

Painting Process Video #1

I put together this quick little video so you can see how this painting came together, and how I have been working lately. Usually I would sketch and do value studies for a painting before I put any paint down, but lately I have been just going for it. I think the results have been interesting and I hope you like it, too. This is my first time using iMovie so I’m sure these videos will improve as I figure things out with the program. Also, I finally ordered a nice little Canon Rebel Digital SLR so the quality and frequency of pictures in the blog should increase.

Won’t Get Fooled Again

I painted this for my friend Brianna because she just graduated Vet school at UC Davis and I am proud of her. Maybe one day this will creep out the customers of her very own clinic… I am also working on a progress video for this painting. I took some photos while I was working on it and am assembling them all in iMovie. You will be able to see the sporadic nature of these paintings as they come together.

Go With Your Gut

Originally I had planned for the whole run to be printed like the green version shown above. That red next to the green really messes with your eyes, which is exactly what I was going for. I was printing late at night and the lighting was not the greatest, and after a couple of pulls they just were not looking right to me. Like a big jerk I decided to switch the run to black ink, which was stupid. Upon inspecting the posters in better lighting I quickly realized the green copies were exactly right. Don’t get me wrong, the black version turned out really good, but it isn’t as trippy. Anyway, there are 4 green copies, and Earthless got 3 of them. I guess that makes them extremely limited, right? Always, always, always, always, always, always, GO WITH YOUR GUT.

Black copies will be for sale at the merch booth at the show, and if there is any left they will be available in my etsy store Saturday.

Detroit Granny

Oh man, Basil Wolverton could really draw, and I have always admired his oddball perspective. Fans of MAD Magazine will recognize his work. This poster for the Detroit Cobras was definitely influenced by his drawing style, especially in the hair. And that color blend I printed there is metallic silver to metallic gold/bronze, so it looks great when the light hits it right.
