I had a lot of fun making this video, you will see that I went a little overboard on the “title sequence.” I am totally digging my new camera (Canon Rebel T1i), and this was a good project to learn the features. I recommend watching the large HD version here.

I just finished this painting. It’s kind of got a Zombie Virgin Mary on Bad Acid vibe. I really pushed myself to gore this up, and will continue to do so in the future. I took a lot of pictures during the process of painting this thing, and I plan to make another process video in the next couple of days. I’m going to bed now.

I put together this quick little video so you can see how this painting came together, and how I have been working lately. Usually I would sketch and do value studies for a painting before I put any paint down, but lately I have been just going for it. I think the results have been interesting and I hope you like it, too. This is my first time using iMovie so I’m sure these videos will improve as I figure things out with the program. Also, I finally ordered a nice little Canon Rebel Digital SLR so the quality and frequency of pictures in the blog should increase.

I painted this for my friend Brianna because she just graduated Vet school at UC Davis and I am proud of her. Maybe one day this will creep out the customers of her very own clinic… I am also working on a progress video for this painting. I took some photos while I was working on it and am assembling them all in iMovie. You will be able to see the sporadic nature of these paintings as they come together.

So I am starting a new blog category called “Bizarre Keywords” in which I will expose the weird words people type into search engines to end up on my site. Two notables so far are “fuckin fart” and “dirty pancake goes tranny.”

In other news I finished that big painting I have been rambling on about for the past month just in time to show at the Beerfest and music and art event. That was a fun but weird evening. The place had a line out the door all night and I’m pretty sure there was a puking contest on the other side of the bar/restaurant. I was hesitant to go check it out as my gag reflex is sometimes triggered by the sight, smells and sounds of the big heave. I still don’t have a camera so no pics of the new painting yet. I was swamped with some boring but necessary corporate type design jobs for a while but I am just about to put on the new Roky Erickson record (which is truly amazing and I would recommend it to anyone) and paint, so all is well. Music and Visual Art Is Good Together

I am showing a weird painting (as well as others, I believe) I have been grinding away on for the past month at this Beerfest at Hensley’s event. I am starting to get the fear a little as I still have a lot to do on it to finish, but having a “due date” is helpful, sometimes. I could easily stretch this out for another month or two, and with some cool work on the horizon finishing this beast is paramount. So come look at it on Sunday. Everything I know about this event I learned from the flyer posted above which I grabbed off the Burning Of Rome‘s myspace page. Fatigue vs. the Moments of Clarity

This painting I am working on is doing weird things to me. Sometimes I curse the canvas and sometimes I am overjoyed with a sense of clarity and direction that becomes overwhelmingly apparent. I am always chasing that state. What is my ritual? That is what I need to figure out. How can I efficiently jump into this state of productivity, and remain there without distraction once this is achieved? Night after night I look for the answer to that question, and once I have this figured out believe me you will be the first to know. Regardless of all this nonsense, I am making real progress and will show this via photographs real soon.

Since I have no fancy new photos to show you of my own I will give you this monstrosity to behold.
